Divisional Commissioner Kashmir briefed the meeting on the water levels at Sangam, Ram Munshi Bagh and Asham, saying that the water level has receded below the danger mark.
With the flood situation worsening in Punjab along the swollen Beas, Sutlej and Ravi rivers after the controlled release of water from crucial dams and the incessant monsoon rains, the district administration on Tuesday closed all schools in seven districts.
In Uttar Pradesh, the flood situation remained grim, particularly in Varanasi and Prayagraj, for the third consecutive day on Monday, with more roads and houses in both urban and rural areas submerged in floodwaters.
The flood situation worsened in Sangam city on Saturday as water from the swollen Ganga and Yamuna rivers entered several localities.
“We request the Central government to ensure more NDRF and SDRF teams. We are proud of our Armed Forces and Coast Guard, who are undertaking rescue efforts,” the Congress chief said.
The highest number of deaths (22) were reported in Cachar district.
According to the flood bulletin released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two deaths occurred in Cachar, and another in Nagaon district.
State revenue minister, K. Rajan is leading the rescue operations from Idukki and Kottayam districts of the state. The state government has announced immediate assistance of Rs 8 crore to the Kottayam district.
The Prime Minister spoke to Banerjee on the flood situation in the state caused by water discharge from dams in parts of Bengal.
He mentioned that investment should be increased in localised early warning system so that people in a particular area can be provided with timely warning in case of any threatening situation.
