Jaishankar to visit Manila for ASEAN, Quad meetings

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Manila, Philippines, on July 22–23 to participate in Foreign Minister-level Meetings under the ASEAN framework, including the ASEAN-India, East Asia Summit (EAS) and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Meetings.

A common currency in ASEAN will benefit citizens

A common currency needs robust financial systems and markets, as well as strong institutional support. Not all ASEAN countries have such institutions to deal with the threats to the financial sector, which have increased in recent years. Then there is the lack of control over national monetary and fiscal policies, restricting the governments’ sovereignty and autonomy.

ASEAN recognises social protection

Among Southeast Asian member states, only Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia and Thailand are considered to have strong social protection systems.
