India’s veteran cricketer MS Dhoni is known for his ‘ice-cool’ attitude no matter what the situation is. Nobody can know whether he is angry, sad or happy going by his looks on the field. However, what is unknown to many is sometimes even ‘captain cool’ loses his cool.
Chinaman Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav narrated one such incident, during his appearance in the youtube series ‘What the duck’ along with Yuzvendra Chahal.
Here is the video:
The incident that Kuldeep Yadav is talking about happened during Sri Lanka’s India tour. In the second T20I match between India and Sri Lanka last year in December when Rohit Sharma was captaining Indian side in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli.
In the match, when Kuldeep Yadav was getting blasted by Sri Lankan batters, Dhoni asked the left-arm spinner to make specific changes in the field. However, Kuldeep was not ready for changes and said he was fine with the current setup. Kuldeep Yadav’s reply irked former Indian skipper and Dhoni yelled at the youngster.
“Wherever I pitched the ball, it went for six. The ground was so small. After every six, I would look at Mahi (Dhoni). He would say, ‘it wasn’t that far, you should keep it further’,” Yadav said while explaining the incident.
“And when I was bowling my fourth over; the batsman reverse swept me for four. Mahi bhai came to me and said, ‘remove cover, move him deep and bring point up’,” Yadav added.
“And I said, ‘No Mahi bhai, that’s okay’,” the Kuldeep recalled saying to Dhoni.
“After hearing this, Mahi bhai got angry and said, ‘Kya main pagal hoon yaha pe, mai 300 ODI khela hoon (Do you think I’m mad? I’ve played 300 ODIs)’,” the 23-year-old Indian spinner said.
After the changes in the field, Kuldeep managed to get a wicket. Kuldeep Yadav bagged three wickets in the match and gave away 52 runs in his allotted 4 overs.
