Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar heaped praises on Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon after the Aussie cricketer took a record-equalling five-wicket haul in the ongoing second Test match between India and Australia. The second Test match of four-match Test series is being played at the Perth stadium.

With his five-wicket haul during India’s first innings, Lyon has now equalled the record of taking five wickets or more in an innings against India along with Sri Lanka great Muttiah Muralitharan.

Both Nathan Lyon and Muralitharan have seven five-wicket hauls against India under their belt. While Lyon has taken 30 innings to achieve the feat, the Sri Lankan had done it in 32 innings.

“Australia have got a very special spinner in @NathLyon421. He has got terrific variations and uses the pace and bounce from the pitch to extract maximum value,” Sachin Tendulkar wrote from his official Twitter handle.

After going wicket-less on the second day of the second Test match, Lyon dismissed Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on his fourth ball of the third day. Following that the off-spinner cleared the visiting team’s tail to take a 43-run lead.

Lyon, who took five wickets in the first innings, was also pleased by Tendulkar’s praise.

“That’s amazing to get something like that from Sachin Tendulkar,” Lyon was quoted as saying after the end of day’s play. “He’s obviously one of the greatest of all time to ever play the game. So, to get recognised from him it’s a massive honour.”
