Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of winger Anthony Martial, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho admitted on Sunday with the FA Cup final less than a week away.

“Anthony (Martial), I have to wait a bit for more. It’s his knee,” Mourinho told MUTV.

Martial’s absence from the matchday squad for United’s final Premier League tie of the season had added fuel to the fire regarding the Frenchman’s future, but the Special One insisted there was no falling out.

“He was injured in the Friday training session and yesterday (Saturday) he couldn’t train. He had treatment in the morning at the training ground and he stayed away.”

Despite Mourinho’s insistence, however, Martial seems unlikely to stay at Old Trafford after another season in which he’s largely watched from the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Mourinho had a positive update on Romelu Lukaku, as he added, “I’m waiting for the doctor but when it’s impossible to play today, I have my doubts (for the cup final). Let’s wait and see, also for Romelu. I know he will be back on Tuesday.”

Lukaku injured his ankle in United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on April 28 and hasn’t been in action ever since. The burly striker’s been undergoing treatment in his native Belgian and is expected to make the bench, at least, for the FA Cup final against his former side Chelsea.

Should Lukaku not recover in time,  Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez is likely to be deployed as a a false-nine against the Blues.

United haven’t fared well since their top scorer got injured, having lost twice and won once in three Premier League games. They have scored just once, worryingly, and have looked largely toothless without their £75 million acquisition.

The FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium is scheduled for Saturday,  May 19.
