Manchester United skipper Michael Carrick bid farewell to the Old Trafford crowd after playing in his final Premier League game for the Red Devils and the video has, understandably so, gone viral on Twitter.

The classy midfielder, who joined United from fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, made his 464th appearance for the Manchester giants on Sunday and captained them to a 1-0 win over Watford.

Marcus Rashford scored the only game on the night as Jose Mourinho’s men ended an ultimately disappointing campaign in second place with 81 points, 19 behind champions Manchester City.

Carrick can still end his season on a high, however, as the FA Cup final against Chelsea looms large on the horizon.

The May 19 tie at Wembley Stadium is the final chance for the Red Devils to give their fans something to cheer for, but their captain is not expected to play a a part against the Blues.

He’s found playing time hard to come by this season, partially due to a heart issue, but the fact that he will remain a part of the club even after hanging his boots softens the blow somewhat.

The club confirmed earlier in the season that he will join Mourinho’s backroom staff and with the Portuguese’s long-term assistant Rui Faria departing the club in the summer, Carrick is expected to play a prominent role from now on.

Over the course of his career at Old Trafford, he’s won the Premier League five times, the FA Cup once, the EFL Cup thrice, the FIFA Club World Cup once, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Champions League one time as well.
