Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton titled Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace ‘a game for the supporters.’

“It’s a game where you have to try and take the emotions out of the game, but this is mostly a game about the supporters,” Hughton said as quoted by www.brightonandhovealbion.com.

Placed ninth in the points table, Brighton host Roy Hodsgon’s men for the first time in the Premier League season. The Seagulls’ boss is confident that his boys can send the home fans happy.

“I would say, from both sets of supporters, this is the game they want to win the most. There will be some fans disappointed on Tuesday night, but we need to make sure we hold our composure and play well enough to make sure it’s not ours,” the 58-year-old added.

Crystal Palace are placed last in the points table and Hughton looks to increase the gap between two Premier League clubs.

“We’ll need to take the same level of application into the game against a very good Crystal Palace team at the moment. When you’re a team like us in the position we are, it goes without saying that you want teams below you to lose. You want to create as big a gap as you can to Crystal Palace,” he said.

“If we’re to win the game, then of course that increases the gap. If it ends up being a draw, then at least that gap hasn’t changed. It happens to be a derby game, but as regards to emotions and what points mean, it wouldn’t be that much different against any team below us,” the former Ireland footballer explained.

In their last game, Brighton lost 0-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
