Economic Showdown

The debate over whether the US economy has performed better under President Joe Biden or his predecessor, Donald Trump, is central to the current presidential campaign.

Setback to Trudeau

Developments in Canadian politics highlight a critical juncture for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government, as the withdrawal of support from the New Democratic Party (NDP) signals a shift in the balance of power.

Institutional Compromises

Why aren’t lessons learnt? Why isn’t the ‘system’ improved to ensure safety and security for all? Why do some institutions/bodies attempt covering up instead of acknowledging concerns and failures? Why isn’t anybody held accountable, ever?

High-stakes battle in Haryana

As the Haryana Assembly election draws near, the ruling BJP, facing anti-incumbency after a decade in power, is gearing up for a challenging battle.

Ukraine, Russia and a new world order

We ask ourselves: can we depend on America to protect liberal democracy and freedom as it did with Kuwait in 1991? The question is loaded, and the answer is nuanced. But it is germane, nonetheless. Until modern science dawned with Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Newton and the others in the Middle Ages, no clear discrimination was preferred between philosophy and science. The fact that the social sciences could not take a clear shape and suffered an identity crisis was also responsible for the non-division

Will war cost Putin support at home?

In ongoing research, conducted with co-authors Ora John Reuter and Quintin Beazer, we show that Russians’ approval of Putin decreases when their ability to vote for their city’s mayor is taken away by the regime. It may sometimes fall well short of a cry for full liberal democracy, but evidence from public opinion data shows that Russians do want their political leaders to be accountable to them.
