The vibrant festivities of Lathmar Holi resonated through the streets of Barasana, the village renowned as the abode of Radha Rani, on Monday.

This spirited celebration marked the continuation of the age-old tradition of Lathmar Holi, where devotees reenact the playful antics of Lord Krishna and his companions, engaging in joyful combat with sticks.

Women, adorned as ‘hurairis’ symbolising Radha Rani’s companions, welcomed the ‘huriyars’ by hitting them with ‘lathis’, throwing ‘gulal’ at them and serving them with sweets.

The tradition dates back to the era of Radha and Krishna, where Lord Krishna and his friends from Nandgaon would playfully tease the women of Barsana, who in turn playfully chased them away with sticks.

This cultural extravaganza not only celebrates the divine love of Radha and Krishna but also epitomises the rich traditions of Braj, captivating hearts worldwide.

This festival in Braj transcends mere festivity; it embodies a profound deeply rooted cultural significance. According to ancient lore, Holi found its inception in the playful exchanges between Lord Krishna and Radha Rani in Braj.

Their divine love story, intertwined with colours and laughter, became the base of the Holi festivities in Braj. It is said that Lord Krishna, adorned in colours, would playfully drench Radha and her companions in hues of love, initiating a tradition that has endured through the ages.

Thus, Holi in Braj is not merely a festival but a reenactment of the eternal love saga between Radha and Krishna, a celebration of love, joy, and unity.

As the festivities continue to unfold across the Braj region, tourists from far and wide flock to witness the grandeur of Holi celebrations.

The Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, along with various administrative bodies, has meticulously orchestrated the preparations for Rangotsav 2024, ensuring a seamless and immersive experience for visitors.
