Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the mass migration problem of Uttarakhand a crisis created by the Congress. At his political rally in Rudrapur on Thursday, the PM linked the migration problem with poor road connectivity in the hills.

Terming migration a “bitter truth” of Uttarakhand, Modi accused Congress of damaging the image of the state through scams during their governance.

On the migration problem, he asked the gathering, “Who forced migration on youth?”

As the public chanted “Congress…Congress”, Modi added, “Even after passing of seven decades most of the villages in Uttarakhand were not connected with motorable roads. Will you vote for Congress for this injustice?”

The Prime Minister mentioned about the all-weather Char Dham road project and the Rishikesh-Karanprayag rail line are BJP’s commitment to improve the connectivity in Uttarakhand.

Even in the last Lok Sabha election campaign, Modi had raised the migration issue in the hill state. This time he was a little soft on AICC general secretary and ex-Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

Blaming Congress culture for destroying Uttarakhand, Narendra Modi accused Harish Rawat for spending more time in visiting New Delhi to appease one family rather than concentrating on development works.

Though Modi touched the misuse of disaster relief fund, excise scam and sand mining scam, he avoided a direct attack on the former Uttarakhand CM.

The Prime Minister was to address a public meeting in Rudrapur last month on 14 February, but the programme got affected due to bad weather.

Even on the affected programme he said, “I was to come here last month. I failed to come at that time, but promised you that I will come and fulfilled my promise.”

Launching attack on Congress the Prime Minister said that even after the Mumbai terrorist attack the Congress took no action and remained silent. On this he added, “The work of Congress is to hide and get frightened.”
