Hours after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said that the the government and the BJP have no role in the CBI raids on Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members.

"Let me make it very clear that the government has no role in it. Instead of facing the charges and answering them, making political allegations against the government and the BJP has become a fashion with some of the opposition parties," Naidu said.

Naidu further said that he hoped people would realise their folly of making false allegations which indirectly hints towards their intentions of covering up their own faults.

"The cases against Lalu Prasad Yadav are not by our government. They were there earlier also. The law is taking its own course. The CBI is doing its duty and acting as per the mandate given to it by the law," he added.

Earlier in the day, the CBI registered a case against Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi and others on allegations of graft in awarding tender for hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

The investigative agency also carried out searches at the residence of Yadav and a former MD of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC).

Searches were conducted at 12 locations, including Delhi, Patna, Ranchi, Puri and Gurgaon.
