Western UP lawyers are once again all set to push their long-standing demand for a high court bench in western UP.

For this, lawyers of 22 districts of western UP, under the aegis of High Court Bench Sthapna Sangharsh Samiti, will carry out their protest in order to mount pressure on the government to designate a bench of Allahabad High Court in western UP.

As part of their protest, the lawyers of these districts, on January 30, will make all tolls barrier-free in their areas. Further action will be decided and a strategy will be chalked out in a meeting of the Samiti on February 2, said the sources.

The lawyers had held a demonstrated here on Saturday and carried out a procession which culminated at the BJP office. Under the leadership of  Samiti president Rajendra Jani and general secretary  Devki Nandan Sharma, the lawyers  handed over their memorandum to BJP city president Mukesh Singhal. Singhal, who supported the demand, promised to take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rajendra Jani said the Samiti would intensify the movement for the HC bench in western UP which has been lurking for past six decades. Lawyers’ body has carried  out repeated agitations for the same cause in the past as well, said a source.

They argue that a HC bench in western UP is also in the interest of the common people who have to travel over 500 km to go to Prayagraj for legal work.
