With only a year remaining before Lok Sabha and Assembly polls chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submitted a 17-page memorandum, urging him to fulfil the promises made under Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

The hour-long meeting came under reports of growing distance between the two allies. As political observers point out that duo met after a gap of an year and half, even though the Prime Minister had in the meantime met Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy from the state and his party MP.

The meeting with Mr Reddy occurred at a time when the chief minister was on a foreign visit and that had irked the TDP leadership. However, the chief minister today said that the his meeting with the Prime Minister did not touch upon political issues and they spoke only about development of Andhra Pradesh, which he said, has the lowest per capita income among southern states.

“The Prime Minister is very clear. He said we will sort it out. We have to keep hoping,”said the chief minister after the meeting. There are many unresolved issues, such as the division of assets and institutions under the AP Reorganisation Act.

Polavaram Dam, a national project but is being executed by the state government, is another problem since the state government is seeking financial aid from the Centre to complete the project before the general elections.

Guidelines for special financial package of Rs17,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh are yet to be formed, alleged the chief minister. There are also some pending issues where the Centre is yet to take a decision and if any injustice is done to the state, it would seek a legal remedy.
