Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday sought “coordinated action and cooperation” among the BRICS nations to deal with the menace of counter terrorism, cyber security and disaster management.

Addressing the ‘Emerging Markets and Developing Countries Dialogue’ at the 9th BRICS Summit in the Chinese southeastern city Xiamen, Modi said: “We need coordinated action and cooperation in areas such as counter terrorism, cyber security and disaster management.”

“We need to work together to create a greener world and mitigate the menace of climate change,” added Modi as he called for an “inclusive world”, where the “poorest of the poor are integrated into the financial mainstream”.

Modi further urged the BRICS nations to “work collectively” for a digital world, skilled world, healthier world, equitable world and harmonious world.

Modi is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the three-day event and their meeting will be keenly watched in the wake of the Doklam border row, which pitted the armies of the two countries against each other for over two months.

This will be the second bilateral meeting between the two leaders this year. The last one took place during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.

After the BRICS Summit, Modi will travel to Myanmar.
