A day after the BJP dropped its Asansol candidate Pawan Singh for the Lok Sabha polls, the party’s sitting MP from Baranaki in Uttar Pradesh too withdrew his candidature after a controversial video of him with a woman went viral on Monday.

Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh withdrew from the Lok Sabha poll contest from the Asansol seat in West Bengal on Sunday. The saffron party had nominated him as its candidate from the constituency currently represented by the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) Shatrughan Sinha.

Singh’s candidature had drawn criticism from the TMC, the ruling party in West Bengal, which alleged that many of his songs were crude and depicted women, including those from the state, in a vulgar way.

Rawat claimed an edited video of him was made viral on social media and said an FIR has been lodged in the matter.

“I have requested BJP national president J P Nadda to get this investigated. I also wrote to him that I will not contest any election in public life until I am proven innocent,” he said.
