A BJP leader, Manguli Jena, mandal president in Khurda, was shot dead by miscreant late Sunday night. Top BJP leaders rushed to the spot on Monday morning even as the party imposed a bandh in Khurda.

The BJP was quick to blame the “goonda raj” of the BJD and the lawlessness unleashed by the ruling party fearing electoral defeat.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleged that the SP of Khurda and the administration have acted irresponsibly and are callous towards the incident.

“No one has reached the spot or visited the bereaved family,” he said.

“We have to respond to his death not by bullet but by ballot,” said Pradhan.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condemned the murder and urged the Election Commission to direct the police to take urgent and stringent action against the culprits.
