A headless body of a woman was found in the toilet of the Gunupur-Puri passenger train on Wednesday. The body was found in the toilet by a passenger, when the train was stationed at Puri .

Police said a severed head was found near the railway track in a polythene bag.

“A passenger reportedly spotted the torso lying in a pool of blood around 6:30 am when the Gunupur-Puri train reached platform number-8 at Puri railway station. He immediately informed us,” said Gagan Das, Inspector, Railway Protection Force (RPF).

It is yet to be seen if the severed head matches with the torso, Das told media.

A team of Government Railway Police (GRP), along with a forensic scientists, has recovered the body from the train and have launched an investigation into the case.

“The identity of the woman is not yet known, the police and passengers suspect it to be a case of murder. She might have been killed in the train and her body dumped at the toilet,” Das added.
