In a shocking incident, a model was held captive at gunpoint for over 12-hour in an apartment in Bhopal by her jilted lover, who wanted to marry the victim. She was rescued by the police late Friday evening.

According to media reports, police on Saturday paraded the man through the area in Bhopal, where he had held the woman captive, as women bystanders angry over the hostage crisis assaulted him with slippers.

Rohit Singh, 30, on Friday had barged into the fifth-floor apartment of the 26-year-old woman in Misrod area of Bhopal. He had held the woman, a professional model, hostage at gunpoint.

The woman told reporters that she did not want to marry the man and urged authorities to put him in jail fearing he would again attempt to harm her.

After being rescued, the woman was rushed to the hospital as she had suffered minor injuries. The woman sustained minor injuries to her neck and hand, police said.

Police negotiators used a hydraulic ladder to talk through a window to Rohit Singh, who held the woman hostage in her fifth-floor apartment in the building in Misrod area.

“We convinced Singh (to let her go) saying we would not harm him and would help him in accordance with the law,” the SP said, without elaborating further.

“The operation took long. We held a series of conversations with him over video calls to ensure that the woman remained safe,” the SP said.

“We succeeded (around 7 pm) finally when we had a face-to-face talk with him through the window (with police negotiators perched atop a hydraulic ladder),” he said.

Throughout the day police kept up the supply of food, glucose and water to Singh to ensure that the woman and he himself stayed in good health.
