As the J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti stepped into the issue of braid-chopping in Kashmir by directing the police to nab the culprits, the state police on Sunday doubled the reward amount to Rs. 6 lakh for anyone providing credible information about the braid chopper.

The J&K Police on its twitter account announced that the reward amount has been increased to Rs.6 lakh from the earlier Rs.3 lakh.

Following violent incidents on Saturday in South Kashmir on the issue of braid-chopping, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti issued strict instructions to the divisional administration and Police to nab the culprits involved in such incidents.

Mehbooba convened an emergent meeting of top civil and police officers in this regard at Srinagar.

Mehbooba asked the DGP SP Vaid to constitute special teams in every district and track down the culprits found involved in spreading fear among young women by chopping their hair.

The Chief Minister also directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to direct all Deputy Commissioners to instill confidence among local people and solicit their cooperation in nabbing the culprits.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister a few days back while expressing concern had directed the DGP to constitute a special team to nab the culprits found involved in braid chopping incidents in Kulgam district and elsewhere.
