Harish Rawat gets booster dose from Cong

Ex-Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat received much need boost from his party, when the ex-Uttarakhand chief minister was selected for three committees formed for the forthcoming plenary session of the Indian National Congress.

Rawat was struggling to keep his hold in Uttarakhand Congress, after losing from two seats in the state assembly elections held last year.

The poor performance of Congress, which got reduced to 11 seats in the 70 member house, also helped the Rawat rivals to sideline him.

The Indian National Congress has nominated Harish Rawat in the drafting committee, sub group-political and constitution amendment committee for the plenary session.

Congress released the list in New Delhi on Wednesday to cheer the Rawat camp. This development comes at a time when most of the senior Congress leaders had joined hands to form an anti-Rawat group.

By getting nominated in various committees for the plenary session, Harish Rawat has proved that he still enjoys confidence of his party.

Rawat is among 44 leaders selected in the drafting committee, among 25 Congressmen included in the sub group-political and among ten figuring in the constitution amendment committee.

Harish Rawat has thanked Congress President Rahul Gandhi for nominating him in various committees formed for the Congress session.

Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh, leader of opposition Indira Hirdayesh and ex-state Congress Chief Kishore Upadhyaya have developed friendship these days.

The old practice of Harish Rawat to dictate terms in party affair, has forced many Congress leaders to form a separate group.

It is generally observed that Harish Rawat and the other group in the party maintain some distance. Rather than forgetting their differences, to counter BJP, the Congress is busy in their infighting.
