In a horrific incident, an 18-year-old Dalit girl was burnt to death by unidentified miscreants in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district.

The incident happened in Bara Sagwar on the evening of Thursday, 22 February, when the girl went to buy vegetables on her bicycle from nearby Tedha Bazaar on her bicycle.

According to reports, the charred body of the girl identified as Mohini was found at 6 pm around 300 metres from her house.

Police reportedly said that traces of petrol were found indicating that she was set on fire. Her bicycle was found lying near her body.

The girl reportedly ran a few metres to save herself but collapsed and died on the spot.

India Today reports that her cries for help went unheard as the area was deserted. The girl’s family said they do not suspect personal enmity behind the attack.

According to IANS, Superintendent of Police (SP) Pushpanjali along with the Station House Officer (SHO) Uttam Singh Rathore interrogated several persons in connection with the crime. A case has been registered against unidentified persons and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
