Launching an attack on the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Durgesh Pathak on Monday alleged that the ruling dispensation at the Centre is trying to defame the Delhi government by blocking the sewer system.

Pathak, while addressing a press conference here, said DJB officials, while trying to clear the blocked sewers, found cement and sandbags in various areas.

He said for the last few days, there has been an increase in the problems due to sewer blockage at many places in Delhi and efforts to address the issue.

Pathak further said the areas that have not faced overflowing sewers for the past 25-30 years are today facing the problem. This was not a coincidence, but due to a dirty conspiracy by the BJP, he alleged.

AAP’s MCD in-charge Pathak called for a thorough investigation into the entire episode.

Displaying pictures of the Rajendra Nagar area and said, Pathak said, “The sewer overflow on the roads has become a problematic issue in Delhi. When workers from the DJB went inside the manholes, they found these sacks stuck in the drainage systems. This is not accidental, it seems someone has deliberately filled these sacks with debris, soil, and stones, and has thrown them into the sewer.”

He further claimed that similar sacks have been found from sewers in different areas.

Pathak wondered how the incidence of sewage overflow has increased in the past 10 days, adding that the problem even struck those places where it has not been reported in the past 25-30 years. This way, he said the BJP is ruining the drainage system of the city during its 15-year tenure in the MCD, despite having the government at the Centre for the past nine years.

He said by doing so the saffron party exposed itself, and demanded an apology from the BJP.
