After having a nightmarish experience for an hour, three passengers were rescued from the jammed lift in Delhi Metro’s Barakhamba station. According to a metro official, the problem occurred as the rope came out of the groove of the pulley, which resulted in jamming of the motor of the lift.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 5 p.m. and the lift got stuck between ground and concourse level.

Many old-aged passengers and differently-abled people often prefer using lift to staircases.

The official also said, “The General Manager (electrical), in-charge of maintenance, rushed to the site and got the doors of the lift opened to provide ventilation and later water was given to the three middle-aged passengers.”

“On one hand, they have increased the fare of metro which is costing heavily on middle class, on other hand, despite of heavy charges there is no maintenance and security inside metro,” said Balak Prajapati, a daily metro commuter.
