With an aim to eliminate counterfeit products from its platform US-based e-commerce giant Amazon has started ‘Project Zero’ initiative in India. Under this initiative, brands will be allowed to flag and to remove counterfeit products in Amazon listings on their own.

More than 7,000 brands said to be part of Project Zero across the US, Europe and Japan. Around 10 brands in India including Hindustan Unilever, Webby, Skudgear and House of Quirk participated in a pilot to help the company test the experience.

“With this launch, we’re excited to see many more brands in India, from small and emerging entrepreneurs to large multi-national brands, partner with us to drive counterfeits to zero and deliver a great shopping experience for our customers,” said Dharmesh M. Mehta, Amazon Customer Trust and Partner Support Vice President, in a statement.

There are three tools in Project Zero: automated protections, self-service counterfeit removal tool and product serialisation.

The self-service counterfeit removal tool allows brands to remove counterfeit listings from the online marketplace. Whereas, product serialisation (optional), helps the brands to detect and stop before each counterfeiting product before it reaches to the customers.

“Project Zero builds on our long-standing work and investments to ensure that customers always receive authentic goods when shopping on Amazon,” said Mehta.

In order to register with the Project Zero, brands having government-registered trademarks, should be enrolled with Amazon Brand Registry. And it must have submitted reports of potential infringements for the last six months, with an acceptance rate of at least 90%, according to Amazon India.
