After receiving severe criticism for his behaviour and his remarks following communal violence in his constituency, Asansol, Union Minister Babul Supriyo on Monday said that he wanted to quit politics and resign from his post but was encouraged and “inspired” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to carry on.

The singer-turned-politician said, in a series of tweets, that he had met PM Modi, who told him “don’t quit” and continue his “fight”.

He went on to add that he is fighting “politics of hate in West Bengal” and thanked PM Modi , for encouraging him  to triumph over the “dirty noise” by continuing to work for the development of the people.

Supriyo said that he was facing “inner questions” of whether he should continue with politics or not following communal clashes in Asansol and found it very hard to “convince” himself to continue”.

He also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banrejee, saying that how can a constitutional entity like the CM be so “uncouth & desperate 2 win elections with unfair means?”.

Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Babul Supriyo, went on to say that, music has won him “hundreds of Muslim friends”, who agree that “MamtaDi’s appeasement politics has created a deep-rooted divide in the society”.

He also said that he is being termed communal because he has stood up for “humanity against appeasement politics thereby automatically making him appear fighting for the Hindus”.

Babul Supriyo said that the state police were behaving like Trinamool Congress Party cadre’s and were igniting fire within the state.  Hindu and Muslims were residing in complete harmony til Mamta Banerjee came to power with the “unholy ambition” to “divide and rule”.

Trouble began for Babul Supriyo after reports emerged that he had used unparliamentary language during his recent visit to his constituency.

The MP from Asansol reportedly threatened to “skin” people, when they shouted slogans against him. The Asansol-Raniganj area witnessed clashes following a Ram Navami rally.

According to media reports, when a person asked him to “go back” and leave them alone, Supriyo was heard shouting, “Chamra guthiye debo ekdom… (Will skin alive).”

A case was also lodged against Babul Supriyo for violating prohibitory orders in Asansol and misbehaving with a senior IPS officer, he accused the Bengal government of registering “false cases”, which, he said, reminded of the CPM rule.

Supriyo was booked for violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC and under Sections 146, 147, 148 (rioting) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), a non-bailable offence.
