1,100 Durga idols immersed in Kolkata
Like every year, the authorities have taken an initiative to keep the Ganga water free of pollution. Hence as soon as the idols are immersed, the structure is brought out of water using crane-machines.
A 42-year-old woman was left critically injured and profusely bleeding when her paramour attacked her with a sickle this morning. Rehana Khatun, a resident of Srijata apartment in Garia, was on her way to work when her lover Sanjay Roy (48) accosted her.
After some time a brawl erupted between them and Sanjay suddenly started to attack her on neck and face with a sickle. On being alerted by her screams, her 22-yearold son rushed towards her and she was immediately taken to ESI Hospital in Joka where her condition is said to be critical.
According to police, Rehana was married twice earlier but she has been living only with her son for a long time.

She had developed a relationship with Sanjay seven years ago when the duo met. Although her neighbours knew Sanjay as her husband, they were not married. Recently, Sanjay got to know that Rehana had started an affair with a man from Murshidabad. Their relationship soured from then and Sanjay planned to kill her to take revenge.
While Rehana works as a security guard at a factory in Mahamayapur, Sanjay is engaged as a cleaning staff of a store at Kankurgachhi. Sanjay, who is married and has a son, also lives alone at his residence.
Although Sanjay managed to flee from the spot after committing the offence, he was later arrested by the Bansdroni police. A case under IPC’s section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered against the accused.
