Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar lauded the decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to scrap the contentious boundary rule that bagged England the 2019 World Cup despite the final against New Zealand ending in a tie.
Tendulkar, who had suggested that the teams should play another Super Over in case the first one gets tied, took to Twitter on Wednesday, saying, “I felt this was important as it is a fair way to obtain a result when nothing else separates the two teams.”

However, on Monday, ICC scrapped the contentious boundary rule and stated that it will not be used in future ICC events.
“In group stages, if the Super Over is tied, the match will be tied. In semi-finals and finals, there is one change to the Super Over regulation in keeping with the basic principle of scoring more runs than the opponent to win, the Super Over will be repeated until one team has more runs than the other,” said ICC in a media release.
