"Since Darjeeling district is surrounded by national and international borders, we recently conducted a meeting with police authorities of the nearby states like Sikkim and nearby countries like Nepal and Bhutan where we agreed to conduct naka checks," Darjeeling superintendent ofpolice Akhilesh Chatturvedi said. The administration will also arrange for every possible communication facility like telephones and internet in every polling booths. "For far flung areas of Darjeeling district like Srikhola, where electricity, mobile phones and internet are yet to reach, we are talking to service providers on how communication could be facilitated there during the polling days.," Mr Yadav said.Polling is scheduled to take place in the district on April 17th, while counting will be done on May 16. Candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers from 19 to 26 March, while the last date for withdrawal of the nominations is 28 March. Mr Yadav said the venue for counting of votes for the Darjeeling constituency has been shifted to Siliguri. "Earlier, the counting used to be done at St Joseph’s School, owing to its large premises.
