Burdwan, 4 March
The Burdwan University has become a premier institution in the state, being set to float distance B Ed
courses. In the first year, 500 applicants would be accommodated, senior officials said today.
The Burdwan University, considering the difficulty faced by the aspirants for long, had started planning to offer distance courses for B Ed, which according to Dr Smritikumar Sarkar, Vice-Chancellor, has finally been approved by the UGC. “We shall start the courses from 2014-15 academic session,” Dr Sarkar said.
Admission for the course would begin in July.
To cater to the needs of the students, the Burdwan University, is set to float Study Centres in different locations in North Bengal and South Bengal.
In South Bengal two centres, in Bankura and Bolpur, will be set up. “Another centre is being planned for the Sundarban areas,” Dr Sarkar said.
The Burdwan University authorities have set up a panel of experts to prepare study materials for the purpose.
Besides, Burdwan University is gearing up to float Post-Graduate courses on Drama, Painting and Music individually.
