Special courses for school, college students

Seeking to further computer literacy among school and college students, the state government has asked the Odisha Knowledge Corporation (OKCL) to design special courses for them.
The matter was discussed in a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra here yesterday.
“OKCL and department of higher education have been asked to design IT literacy courses for students at secondary and higher secondary levels. Specific arrangements for teaching, learning, examination and award of co-branded certificates on IT courses will be developed through joint efforts of Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha and OKCL,” said a senior official in the IT department.
“It has also been decided that the premier universities of the state will be accepted as equity partners in OKCL. This apart, the university digitization and CHSE computerization will be done through OKCL,” the official said.
The corporation has envisaged future projects like secured remote paper distribution process for examination in colleges to avoid leakage of question papers and practice set of question papers for engineering and medical students. The meeting also directed OKCL to devise user friendly modules for senior citizens so as to enable them to have contact with family members staying away from them and to facilitate their day to day transactions.
Set up as a public limited company through joint equity of the state government and Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation (MKCL), OKCL has taken up e-Learning, e-Empowerment and e-Governance projects for promotion of IT and ITeS in Odisha. OKCL has successfully completed Gram Sabha Sashaktikaran Karyakram (GSSK) in which massive data can be uploaded and analysed on the very next day of the conduction of gram sabha. It has also developed ICT school scheme and other projects for ITES.
OKCL has already promoted more than 224 authorized learning centers in different parts of the state on public private partnership mode and more than 1,379 learners have been registered till now. “Another 800 centers will be opened during the year 2014,” said Managing Director Santosh Birari.
