Reacting to Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday lashed out at the Congress leader calling him a “failed dynast” and challenged him for a public debate without a written speech.

“Rahul Gandhi belittling the PM is not surprising and is expected because after failing to connect with people of India, he is choosing a platform of convenience to berate his political opponents,” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.

“A failed dynast who lacks imagination spoke of his failed political journey,” she added.

Citing the names of President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and PM Modi, Irani said the three leaders belonged to humble backgrounds but had risen the ranks on their own merit.

“There is no place for dynasty in democracy,” said Irani adding that Rahul Gandhi’s statement that Congress became arrogant and hence lost election was a big political confession.

She also said that people in India were not really interested in listening to Rahul Gandhi and he has no choice but to go abroad to address a gathering.

“Rahul Gandhi singing his tune to the wrong audiences… Why doesn’t he come out and do a public debate with me, without a handwritten script or a speech,” she said.

The Congress Vice President, who is on a two-week visit to the US to interact with political leaders, global thinkers and overseas Indians, criticised PM Modi for his decisions especially demonetisation and the GST regime.
