The dates of the students’ union election for Calcutta University campus and affiliated colleges have been declared today.
While the students’ union election for all the campuses of Calcutta University has been fixed on 18 January, the election for Kolkata colleges will be held on 16, 18 and 21 January.
The CU affiliated colleges of Hooghly and South 24-Parganas will hold their elections  on 28 January while the students’ union election for the colleges of Howrah will be conducted on 21 January.
It was also decided that for colleges in the area under Kolkata police’s jurisdiction, the additional officer in charge (OC) will monitor the entire students’ union election process in the colleges.
It was also disclosed that a draft guideline rule for the students’ union election of the CU-affiliated six campuses has been prepared and it will be placed at the CU syndicate. 
Mr Suranjan Das, Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University, said that the dates of the students’ union election for the CU colleges has been fixed and they are trying to closely work with the police officials for better co-ordination.
On Wednesday police sought suggestions from the university authorities on how to make security arrangements and proposed dates for the election. 
Police officers have proposed to hold elections for the 94 colleges and seven campuses under Calcutta University on 16, 18, and 24 January.
A senior police officer said that they have proposed to hold elections in 94 colleges on two of the selected dates and that the
election in the campuses should be held on another day.
Calcutta University authorities have urged respective district magistrates to propose suitable dates to conduct election in the rest of the 140 colleges, which are situated in the districts including Howrah, South and North 24-Parganas.  
They also proposed to hold elections in Jadavpur and Presidency universities on 28 and 31 January.
