With the Indian Air Force carrying out air strikes on Pakistan after crossing the Line of Control on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Imran Khan convened an emergency meeting to review the situation, according to Radio Pakistan. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said a meeting of the National Security Committee was under way, Dawn.com reported.

Earlier in the morning, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had called an emergency meeting at the Foreign Office in Islamabad to discuss the security situation with former secretaries and senior ambassadors, Radio Pakistan said.

During the meeting, Qureshi said Pakistan was moving forward while demonstrating the behaviour of a responsible state but India was “bent on disturbing peace in the region”.

In a statement following the IAF strikes, Qureshi also warned India not to challenge Pakistan and said better sense should prevail in Delhi, Radio Pakistan reported.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Defence Minister Pervez Khattak said the “violation” of LoC by India was “unacceptable”, and that Pakistan was ready to defend its land and people.

Reacting to the air strikes on Pakistan by India, ruling party PTI pressed for international community to take notice and said: “Any misadventure of myopic Modi government will beget a crisis to global peace.”

“Pakistan’s defence is invincible,” said Arshad Dad, secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
