UberPOOL service now expands to Chandigarh, Jaipur and Ahmedabad

Popular cab hailing app Uber on Thursday said it is expanding UberPOOL service to three more Indian cities – Chandigarh, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. The service goes live from Thursday October 5 itself in all three cities.

With this, UberPOOL is now available in 12 Indian cities.

According to a Medianama report, Uber as of now claims that its 30 percent of rides in Mumbai are on uberPOOL, 29 percent in Hyderabad, 28 percent in Delhi, 25 percent in Bangalore, 18 percent in Chennai as well as Pune, and about 15 percent in Kolkata.

“The expansion strategy is an effort to promote shared mobility in India with UberPOOL allowing people heading in the same direction to take the same ride,” Uber said in a statement.

UberPOOL started in September 2015. It gives users an option to share a ride with 1-2 passengers heading in the same direction, and thus save money eventually.

Uber’s biggest rival Ola also started Ola Share right after UberPOOL in October 2015. However, Ola is ahead in terms of ride-sharing presence with 26 Indian cities. Ola Share claims a 500% growth in last one year (June, 2016 – June, 2017).
