Scandal must stop

Indeed, WHO has upbraided the countries that are asking citizens to take yet another Covid-19 booster shot to mitigate the transmission of the virus.

Delta Covid variant now spread to 185 countries: WHO

"The Delta variant now accounted for 90 per cent of the sequences submitted to GISAID with a sample collection date (between 15 June-15 September 2021)," the global health agency said in its weekly epidemiological update on Tuesday. GISAID, which stands for Global Initiative on Sharing Avian Influenza Data, is an open-access database.

Not unexpected

For a state that has over the years mastered the art of clandestinely selling intoxicants, transporting and distributing illicit liquor would have proved relatively easy, especially in the absence of competition.

Youth in focus

Young people are said to be stepping out for commuting to work, but worryingly, to also visit bars and nightclubs and even sometimes to attend Covid-19 parties to deliberately get infected.

The current pandemic has exposed vulnerabilities of women more than their male counterparts within their homes, the labour market and as frontline healthcare workers. It has increased their unpaid work as caregivers, magnified pay disparities and widened the existing gender divide with its inequalities.
