The Cabinet has approved the continuation of a targeted subsidy worth Rs 12,000 crore for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) consumers for the fiscal year 2025-26. This subsidy aims to make LPG connections more affordable for beneficiaries, promoting sustained use of clean cooking fuel across India.
The minister said that the subsidy aims to shield PMUY beneficiaries from sharp fluctuations in international LPG prices and make LPG more affordable, ensuring sustained usage.
This crucial decision was taken during the meeting of the High-Level Empowered Electric Vehicle Committee (HLEEVC), chaired by state Chief Secretary, Manoj Kumar Singh.
The three persons managed the government subsidies, meant for farmers, by uploading fake documents and information on the portal. They, further, collected cheques in advance, from the beneficiaries before the subsidy amounts were credited in the bank accounts.
The subsidy approved by Cabinet for the NBS Rabi-2022 (from 01.10.2022 to 31.03.2023) will be Rs. 51,875 crores, including support for indigenous fertilizer (SSP) through freight subsidy.
The government received Rs 12,03,748 crore till September 2022, consisting of Rs 10,11,961 crore of tax revenue (net to centre), Rs 1,57,600 crore of non-tax revenue, and Rs 34,187 crore of non-debt capital receipts.
"We will soon release a phone number where consumers can drop a missed call or WhatsApp to register their choice for the power subsidy," Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
According to Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), the subsidized LPG cylinder price in March 2014 was Rs 410. After the latest increase, the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 50 while single domestic LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1053 in Delhi.
