The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday partnered with street vendor networks across Delhi to spread heatwave warnings, as the city continues to reel under extreme temperatures.
A total of 4.79 lakh street vendors in Gujarat have benefited from the PM SVANidhi scheme, which completes five years since its launch on Saturday. The state has achieved 92.14 per cent of its target to benefit 5.20 lakh beneficiaries.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget speech today, announced that her government will provide ID cards to gig workers. Gig worker will also be provided access to healthcare via a social security scheme.
He said that there is a law for street vendors in the state as well and that this law has been amended from time to time.
The decision of the state government came in the wake of public outrage over the construction of an alleged multi-story mosque at Sanjauli in the suburbs of Shimla town.
In a decision aimed towards empowering street vendors and improving their overall working conditions, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a survey facilitating the allocation of designated spaces for them to set up their shops.
The Minister was speaking at PM SVANidhi Mega Camp here. As part of this event, loans were distributed to 10,000 street vendors.
The Union housing and urban affairs minister reiterated government’s commitment to creating supportive & empowering environment for them.
Khattar said fairs will be organised to provide loans to street vendors with an objective to motivate them to grow their businesses.
"This year we have invited mortuary workers, street vendors, Anganwadi workers and Mudra Scheme loanees as special guests for the 15th August Independence Day celebrations," Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said.
