Terrorism is back

The March 22 attacks in Moscow have raised the spectre of international terrorism. While these terror strikes were claimed by the Islamic State, Russia suspects a Ukrainian hand in the attacks.

Putin’s Triumph

The recent impressive victory of Vladimir Putin for the presidency of the Russian Federation was expected and it is generally believed that even in a Western type of competitive democratic politics he would have won by a comfortable majority.

Gas problem

Inflation is at a record high, fears of a recession are very real, and the euro is at parity with the dollar for the first time in two decades.

Problem with Realism

Russia, and only Russia, is painted in the Western media as the villain. In the vaunted liberal rules-based international system, based on US rules, there curiously is no law against merciless provocation, only against responding to provocation.
