The rebutall came after India claimed that US continues to import from Russia uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry,fertilisers, as well as chemicals.
The INF treaty banned deployments of ground-launched missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers. However, the treaty was already on the verge of collapse after the US pulled out of it in 2019.
India’s foreign ministry defended the country’s imports from Russia, saying they are a “necessity driven by global market conditions,” and criticized the nations pointing fingers at India, noting that many of them continue to trade with Russia despite lacking any compelling need to do so.
The development comes after Trump stated that the US is "totally prepared" in response to a nuclear threat from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who had previously reminded Trump of Russia's nuclear capabilities.
