West Bengal has launched fresh enquiries into hundreds of 2021 post-poll violence complaints as political tensions rise after the BJP’s 2026 Assembly election victory.
Mamata Banerjee personally argued before the Calcutta High Court over alleged post-election violence in Bengal as the state government dismissed the claims as unsupported.
Reddy has threatened to complain to the Lok Sabha Speaker if he was not allowed to enter his own constituency.
CEC Kumar directed the the chief secretary and DGP to ensure that such violence is not repeated.
Clashes continued to take place between TDP and YSRCP supporters at several places in the state.
Though Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had claimed that there was no incident of post-poll violence in the state, an NHRC report has said that there were several cases of rape and murder after the announcement of Assembly election results in 2021.
The CBI has so far registered 49 cases in connection with post-poll violence in West Bengal.
The CBI filed the cases in compliance with the Calcutta High Court order passed in August 19 this year.
Sarkar was brutally attacked by a mob on May 2 at his home in Kolkata, hours after curtains came down on the bitterly fought assembly elections with TMC recording astounding victory and the BJP emerging as the principal opposition in the state.
“From the high court’s order nullifying a ban and allowing Durga puja procession on Dashami to the observations made in post-poll violence cases, the ruling camp has suffered many reverses."
