Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk has appealed to people across the country to join planned march to Parliament on Monday, July 20. In a handwritten message shared by his wife from Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk described ongoing campaign as India’s “second freedom movement”. He asked citizens to stand together in support of the cause.

In his note, Wangchuk wrote, “The second movement for independence; India free from fear, India free from injustice.”

Hunger strike continues for 22 days

Wangchuk has now completed 22 days of his indefinite fast. During this period, he has continued to press for political and educational reforms.

As part of his demands, he has called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Shifted to hospital after High Court direction

On Saturday, Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi after the Delhi High Court directed authorities to closely monitor his health condition.

Court’s intervention came as his prolonged hunger strike raised concerns about his physical well-being.

Allegations over hospital transfer

Circumstances surrounding Wangchuk’s transfer to the hospital have also sparked controversy.

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), alleged that Wangchuk was forcibly taken to the hospital. Dipke also claimed that the activist was assaulted during the process.

Dipke begins his own hunger strike

Abhijeet Dipke, who returned from Boston last month, has announced that he has begun an indefinite hunger strike.

According to Dipke, the protest is aimed at demanding accountability from the BJP-led government. His decision comes amid the continuing agitation linked to Wangchuk’s fast and the group’s broader demands on education and governance.

The Cockroach Janta Party has called on supporters and citizens to participate in the “Chalo Sansad” march to Parliament on July 20.
