The state government is to publish the draft on delimitation of wards under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation on 31 July, informed administrator of the civic body Smita Pandey today.
Municipal sources claim that the files concerning the regularisation of illegal constructions were a major source of revenue for this racket.
The complaint mentioned that around 200 feet of the playground's boundary wall, along with an iron gate and grills belonging to the civic body, were demolished.
The applicants would have to share information about the site engineer, material supplier, sub contractors, empanelled structural reviewer and several such details.
The complainant further alleged that after receiving the money, Iqbal continued to demand additional extortion payments and threatened him with a revolver.
The Central Kolkata, parts of east Kolkata and Jadavpur, Behala and Garden Reach were haven for unauthorised construction during the CPMcontrolled KMC between 1985 and 2000.
The KMC has also started using mike for announcements in various wards to create awareness among the masses on the do’s and don’ts during the rainy season.
Mayor of KMC and the local MLA, Firhad Hakim visited the area and expressed possibilities of power theft recommending action against those involved in the illegal activity.
According to Mr Hakim, the task of these officials is to file a diary at the local police station and issue a notice when illegal construction comes to their notice.
This is for the first time that such a venture has been taken by the state government. It may be mentioned that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation ( KMC) has started giving heritage tags to heritage buildings.
