According to a study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), one woman dies of cervical cancer every eight minutes and of every two women diagnosed with breast cancer, one dies of it.
Yadav, on the basis of the report, said that during the year 2024, the cancer cases reported were 28387, and in the year 2023, the figure was 27561, while back in the year 2022, there were 26735 cancer patients in the city.
He also directed the authorities at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to take immediate action to fill these vacancies to ensure quality education.
The meeting, which was held on Friday, marked an important milestone in fostering collaboration across South and Southeast Asia to ensure that health research directly informs policy, addresses regional priorities, and builds sustainable systems for the future.
“Recently, on the instructions from the ICMR we have distributed huge quantities of test kits that were lying unutilized here and scheduled for expiry by 31 December to central government-run labs in Odisha and Jharkhand for their use. I don’t know why our state government is not sending adequate number of swab samples as much as possible to us despite repeated requests made to Swasthya Bhaban,”
Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya informed that reminder SMS have been sent to more than 1 crore health and frontline workers and 60+ citizens for their precaution dose.
"Omicron is the predominant circulating strain in cities in the country. Mass gatherings should be avoided to lower the speed of this spread," Dr Bhargava said during the briefing of the Union Health Ministry.
India on Thursday registered 13,154 fresh Covid cases and 268 deaths in a span of 24 hours. With the addition of the new deaths, the total death toll reached 4,80,860.
The kit has been designed by a team of ICMR scientists from the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) for the Northeast region led by scientist Dr Biswajyoti Borkakoty.
