According to a study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), one woman dies of cervical cancer every eight minutes and of every two women diagnosed with breast cancer, one dies of it.
Yadav, on the basis of the report, said that during the year 2024, the cancer cases reported were 28387, and in the year 2023, the figure was 27561, while back in the year 2022, there were 26735 cancer patients in the city.
He also directed the authorities at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to take immediate action to fill these vacancies to ensure quality education.
The meeting, which was held on Friday, marked an important milestone in fostering collaboration across South and Southeast Asia to ensure that health research directly informs policy, addresses regional priorities, and builds sustainable systems for the future.
The Concept and Compilation of the guidelines has been done by prominent researchers and doctors including Dr Nikhil Tandon (HOD of Endocrinology & Metabolism, AIIMS, New Delhi), Dr V Mohan (Director, MDRF, Chennai), Dr R S Dhaliwal (Head, Division of Non-Communicable Diseases, ICMR Hqrs).
"Whenever an infection transmits from humans to animals is called reverse zoonosis. It's not only about SARS-CoV-2, but also includes other COVID like infections. Any infection that originally comes from animals to humans is called zoonosis," Dr Abraham said.
As per the MoU, the cooperation will be undertaken in Chennai at the National Institute for Research on Tuberculosis (NIRT) of ICMR in the scientific area.
Dr Bhargava is the senior most among all 32 persons. His mother, Dr Sneh Bhargava, radiologist and medical academic, also held the post of director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi from 1984-1990. She has been the first and the only female Director of the AIIMS so far.
This emphasises the need for an Omicron-specific vaccine strategy, said the study.
