Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party President Dr. Rajeev Bindal launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, stating that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state has been pushed into a situation from which recovery appears extremely difficult.
Providing more information about the carnival, Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan stated that the intention behind this initiative is to "attract more and more tourists" to the state.
The party stated that the state is heading toward a severe economic crisis, with government debt now exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement in the State Legislative Assembly, which was held at Dharamshala on Thursday.
Accusing the Opposition leaders of distributing freebies to the people of the state when in power, Jai Ram Thakur pointed out that they are now claiming that they would discontinue these schemes once they come to power.
The Opposition protested the move saying that party programmes were being organised from the exchequer. Defending the legislation, CM Jai Ram Thakur said the global economy has been affected due to the COVID pandemic and Himachal has also not remained untouched by it.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur criticised the walkout and said that the Opposition Congress was not serious on the last day of the monsoon session, which also is the last day of the 13th Legislative Assembly.
During the proceedings, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur informed that his government has taken up the matter of restoration of old pension with the Central government. He also said the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition had no merit.
Addressing media persons here in Shimla, Election Observer for Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel claimed that they will restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in Himachal as it has been done in other Congress-led states, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh.
