Higher education of the country is set to take a giant leap as for the first time, foreign universities will be able to set up their campuses in India.
The meeting has also approved a proposal to start institutions in higher education in the cooperative sector, on private -public- participation model and using private sector investment.
The Aligarh Muslim University, Amity University, Homi Bhabha National Institute, Manipal University, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, and University of Calcutta have been placed at the 9-14 ranks among the universities in the country and in the 901-1000 bracket among world universities.
There are many recent instances where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have advocated the use and importance of Indian languages.
Appreciating the efforts of the Education Ministry and Dr Kasturirangan and his team, who prepared the policy, the President mentioned that the Policy has been prepared after extensive consultation with 2.5 lakh gram panchayats, more than 12,500 local bodies and about 675 districts generating more than two lakh suggestions thereby reflecting a ground-level understanding.

Lofty futuristic goals no doubt, with tectonic potential to transform India from an educationally laggard country into a self-reliant knowledge superpower only if sincere implementation can be ensured which would need enormous resources, and it is here that the NEP disappoints.
