At least 1,186 people have died from the floods in Pakistan, leaving affected residents angry at the lack of help being provided to them as this natural disaster disrupts life and pose threat to food security and the economy.
As of August 25, more than 33 million people have been affected and over 6.4 million people are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 421,000 refugees, the WHO report highlighted.
State Chief Secretary RD Dhiman said 278 lives were lost in incidents like flash floods, cloud bursts, landslides, and house collapses while 522 people were injured and nine people are missing. Damage to property was estimated at Rs 1,981.86 crore.
Top official sources said Islamabad would first seek financial assistance from the international community and then it might assess the damages separately or jointly with the donors to work out the exact figures, but first of all the government would focus on all-out relief efforts in order to rescue the victims.
Pakistan Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said chief ministers of all provinces have been invited to the meeting, which would also be attended by the armed forces' leadership.
