Truth or journalistic ethics has become of no concern. However, the values and ethics of journalism do not, and should not, change. It is not only online media, but even mainstream media outlets cannot resist the temptation to cover fake news stories repeatedly for their sensational value, giving them added traction.

Social media creates wild fire in hills, Uttarakhand govt launches campaign

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said, “#PrayForUttarakhand for right reasons- Check how old photographs are being used to run fake propaganda. Forest fire incidents in hills are common during summer season. Fortunately until 26 May, only 81.16 hectare of area is under fire & this is 5 percent of what it was during same period last year.”

Police crackdown on fake news

Out of the 140 held for posting, forwarding and circulating fake news in the social media websites, Kolkata police have been able to nab 19 people so far, according to a data compiled till 2 May.
