Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Monday welcomed the Delhi High Court decision to admit a petition challenging the discharge of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and other accused by a lower Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the alleged liquor scam case.
Speaking after the verdict, Sibal said the court had dismissed the CBI case against Kejriwal, Sisodia and around 20–22 other accused, including K. Kavitha, and discharged all of them.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday said that the discharge of charges against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, senior AAP leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia and others in the excise policy case has vindicated the party’s consistent stand that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other central agencies were being misused by the Union government to target political opponents.
The court refused to consider email service a valid or legal method of serving Summons.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating Sisodia’s alleged criminal conspiracy angle in the money-laundering dimension being probed by the ED.
Despite being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in a separate Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, Kejriwal remains incarcerated due to the CBI's arrest related to the excise policy controversy.
The CBI told the court that Kejriwal didn't cooperate in the investigation and gave evasive replies.
A vacation bench of Rouse Avenue Court, comprising Justice Amitabh Rawat, stated that the Delhi CM will be produced before the court on June 29 before 7 pm.
The court gave both the petitioner, Kejriwal and the prosecuting agency Directorate of Enforcement, a week’s time to file their additional written notes.
