With the enforcement of strict action against polluters Rs 2.36 crore 'Environmental Compensation' has been imposed on the projects found not complying with the prescribed norms.
“The major source of Delhi’s pollution right now is PM10, which comes from construction sites, dust on roads, and several other factors,” the official said.
“On violation of anti-dust norms at construction sites, fines ranging from Rs 10,000 to 5 lac+ to be imposed by the government as per NGT guidelines,” he said.
The Environment Minister said, “Delhi Pollution Control Committee will take action against those project proponents who have not registered their construction and demolition sites on the C&D portal for self-assessment of dust control norms.”
Inspections of the 22,764 construction and demolition (C&D) sites were carried out in 19 days by 585 teams deployed by Delhi government to keep a check at such sites to curb the dust pollution.
The Environment Minister has since ordered DPCC to issue two separate notices to the concerned agency CPWD – one, for ignoring the ban which was imposed to reduce pollution in the city and two, for violating anti-dust guidelines while construction is in full swing. CPWD must respond to these notices by tomorrow and further action will be taken on the basis of their response, he informed.
